Compatible in marriage, incompatible at the dining table.

How often have we met somebody who says that they have changed their food preferences after marriage? Many a times, you might be the person who has changed your food preferences so much and for so long that you no longer remember what you enjoyed eating or what is your favourite dish. You have grown up eating spicy balanced meals and at fixed timings but your partners’ household eats bland food and timings are not fixed – what do you do? You just shift your likes and dislikes - What could be wrong in eating less spicy food?
According to Ayurveda, there are 10 body types. Each body type has a preference for certain kind of food. Some body types benefit from less spicy food while some body types benefit from food which is heavily spiced. Here are some pointers:
1. Sit and think. What were you eating before marriage and what are you eating now? When were you healthier and energetic?
2. Make sure that every day you have one dish which is familiar and agrees with your system.
3. Do not look up the internet to see which food is better – spicy or bland. Each body has a particular preference.
Examples:
Kapha combinations need spice to be active and happy. Giving them bland food is the best way to push them into depression or make them gain weight and lethargic.
Pitta combinations need less spiced food but can indulge in tangy and spicy food once in a while. Give them such food on a daily basis and they will land up with acidity and skin eruptions.
4. If you are constantly feeling low on energy or feeling sick despite eating a healthy diet, for a week shift to familiar foods which you like and enjoy and have grown up eating - See if you feel better.
5. Women in general tend to put their preference at the end. They are constantly catering to others’ preferences. Please try to treat your taste buds to foods that you relish – food for the body is not enough, there must be food for the soul!
