No time to fall sick – Blessing or Bane?
During the change of weather, the kids fall sick, men have allergies and the elderly develop cough and cold. What about the women of the house? They do not have the time to fall sick! Being caretakers, the onus of looking after the sick lies with the women of the house. The immunity of a person greatly depends on the mind-body connection. Children will not feel tired or pain if they are enjoying games but if they dislike an activity, they will complain of fatigue. Similarly, elderly people are less likely to feel depressed or tired if their spirits are high. With women, they have so much work on their hands that they do not have the time to fall sick. Is it a blessing or a bane?
When does it work in your favour?
1. The usual cough and cold can be brought under control with home remedies at the onset. When women realize some symptoms, they resort to home remedies as early as possible because they do not want an aggravation. This is good as home remedies work best at the onset.
2. Muscle response:
‘ You don’t use it, you lose it’ - is the mantra for your muscles. Being caretakers, women often do a lot of housework even if they have help at home. Being physically fit by working out at the gym helps a lot but staying fit by doing odd jobs around the house is equally good.
3. The weight gain issue is always on the minds of women. So, as compared to the other family members, they hardly ever overeat. So, in a way, the calories are restricted.
When should you be cautious?
1. When there is an injury to the bone/ligament/tendon and you are advised rest, please take rest and allow the body to heal. The lesser the rest, the longer the healing period. Think of the long term consequences and do the needful.
2. Do not deprive yourself of nutrition:
Many a times, women are the ones eating after the entire family has eaten. For them, it is more a question of reducing wastage and carry forward of food. Though practical, make sure that you also have a good share of your nutrition just like the other family members.
3. Do not ignore repetitive nagging pain in the body. This is not an emergency case so do not ignore symptoms. Rather than resorting to pain killers every time, consult a doctor if the pain does not subside even after a couple of months.
4. You will not miss your child’s immunization, would you? Then why do you want to miss your annual checkup? Prevention is better than cure. Think of it as an investment for one year not as an unnecessary expenditure.
Women can treat their attitude as a blessing or a bane. You have to learn to draw the line. Just take care of yourself so that you can take care of your loved ones.
