Concept of wastage

Concept of wastage
This is one topic which has been discussed on Wellness Awareness many number of times. The reason the topic is discussed so frequently is that women need constant reminders to take care of their health. There are two extreme situations that women face on a daily basis. At dinner time, they either have leftovers or they are a little short of food. Appetite of family members varies depending on their daily activities. It is rarely possible to prepare exact quantities.
If it is excess quantity, they turn themselves into the official dustbin of the house. If it is less, they compromise on the qty and the nutrition.
Don’ts
- It might be ‘just’ one slice of cake, ‘just’ 2 chapatis or ‘just’ a bowl of gravy. Whatever maybe the qty , listen to your stomach and not to the leftover food.
- Do not feel guilty of ‘wasting’ food. It happens. By eating more food you are not reducing the wastage.
-  Do not insist on finishing everything on the plate. Be prudent about the portion sizes while helping yourself to food. Go for second servings if required.
- Do not get into the habit of eating children’s leftover food. Serve them appropriate portions which they can finish. Assessment of portion sizes can be inculcated in children.
Do’s
- Deal with excess food – away from your body. Either store it in the fridge or put it in the dustbin. If you do not want to do both, pack it up and give to the less fortunate people.
- If you have shortage of food when you sit down for dinner, eat something else to make up for the quantity. You can quickly prepare some oats or eat some corn flakes or a bowl of salad. It hardly takes any time for preparation.
- Always keep some readymade mixes handy in the kitchen so that in case of shortage of food, you can help yourself.
While building a house, utmost care is given to the foundation. Likewise, women need to eat well, eat healthy and stay healthy.
